KMIX Radio was developed as an outreach for Dunn PAL. It is a youth operated radio station that was developed and put on the air in September 2005. This radio station is designed and developed by the youth that participate in the Dunn Police Athletic/Activities League. It was developed to give youth the opportunity to have hands on experience with what it takes to operate a real radio station. Youth will gain experience in several aspects of a radio station from the station manager, to being a Disc Jockey to advertisement and marketing. Station Guidelines Volunteer Staff: Station Manager (1), Assistant Managers (2), Disc Jockeys (6), Marketing (2) Finance (1), Advisory Board (7), Total (19) Job Descriptions Station Manager Responsible for all operations of the Radio Station. Reports directly to the PAL Director. Organizes, directs and implements all programs involved with the radio station. He/she delegates and motivates all radio station staff in implementing and completing all functions of the station. He/she is an active participant on the stations advisory board. He/she monitors music content to ensure no negative, profanity or vulgarity is played. Is responsible for keeping all music up to date and requesting all new music from the PAL Director. Assistant Managers Responsible for all operations of the radio station in the absence of the station manager. Reports directly to the station manager and PAL Director. Organizes, directs and implements all programs involved with the radio station. He/she delegates and motivates all radio station staff in implementing and completing all functions of the station. He/she is an active participant on the stations advisory board. He/she monitors music content to ensure no negative, profanity or vulgarity is played. Develops, implements and maintains all staff schedules on a daily basis. Maintains communication between D.J.’s, Marketing and finance. Reports all communication to the station manager and PAL Director in station manager’s absence. Directly supervises D.J.’s, Marketing and Finance. Disc Jockey’s (D.J.’s) Overall responsibility for playing, revising and communications on KMIX Radio Station. The Disc Jockey is the person that actually communicates, motivates and promotes the listeners on the radio station. Promotes the advertisers and Dunn PAL on the radio. Keep the radio station up to date, clean and maintain the equipment in good working order. The D.J. reports directly to the Assistant Station Managers. Marketing Responsible for promoting Dunn PAL, KMIX 103 and acquiring sponsors through advertisements from the community. Must prepare all commercials in writing and transfer the commercials to voice commercials for the D.J.’s to play on the station. Must prepare all live advertising in writing for the D.J.’s to announce on the radio station when in live mode. Quotes prices of commercials to individuals who are seeking sponsorships forwarding the documented prices to the finance for collection. Reports directly to the Station Manager and PAL Director in station manager’s absence. Finance Is responsible for all monies collected for the radio station and all expenditures for the station. Records all transactions and communicates those transactions to the Stations Advisory Board, Station Manager and PAL Director. Is responsible for all invoices, statements and all other correspondence with the general public, station staff, Station Advisory Board, Dunn PAL Staff and PAL Advisory Board. Must keep accurate records and maintain those records within the Dunn PAL Office. Reports directly to the Station Manager and PAL Director. Station Advisory Board This is a group of individuals that oversee all content, programming and finances of the radio station and make recommendations to the PAL Director, Station Manager and Dunn PAL Advisory Board. This Board is all volunteer and is advisory capacity only. This board meets quarterly in the Dunn PAL Center. They report to the Dunn PAL Advisory Board. This station is an official program of the Dunn Police Athletic/Activities League.
